Quick note at the top of the update here. As it turns out we had quite a few issues putting the images together so we had to find new ones for more than a few characters. Shout outs go to EmperorToad for helping me find these new images, but if you're wondering why there's a new image for your submission, that's why. Don't worry though: all the submissions are the same.
That said, let's get on with the show.
PrologueHere they are. The second annual hunger games. We have quite a few contestants from around the universes, but one fact remains: most of them are going to die.
But who are these people? Where do they come from? Why are they here? You see, in death, they may as well be faceless. If someone falls in the arena, they are returned on a tray, but they're prepared as much as possible for the funerals. So, in order to connect you to our victims, I'm going to try and paint you a picture of what it was like before they entered...
The Warp Star District. Inhabited by those who have lost their way or wish to live forever in peaceful paradise, this district is often where people go to get away or get in. Mixing environments litter the district, and where the sun has risen in one place, the moon is in another.
Here existed two of our tributes: Marx and Susie. Marx is caught up in wonder at the silent war between sun and moon here, as well as the debate on Pokemon Sun or Moon. He lives only to witness the beauty of walking into nighttime from a hot summer day, and treading into sunlight from a cold winter's moon. He fights not for Pokemon Sun or Pokemon Moon, but rather to keep those wars alive for his entertainment.
Susie, however, is different. She isn't quite from this district, yet something makes her stay. She hums an industrial tune, passed down from a company long since disbanded, and seeks knowledge of this land wherever she can. She works closest to Marx, knowing he is the cause of the Sun/Moon debate and of his history with the sun and moon of his world. She seeks to end him from the inside: to get in his head, accumulate knowledge of this world, and use it to end the wars and...well, that's it. No one knows her true motives, but those who know her best know her as a spy at worst...
So, naturally, when Marx's name was drawn at the Reaping, Susie was quick to volunteer. This was her chance to finish him off...but how and when would be left to chance.
The Spacetime District. Don't let that name fool you: this district deals with the flow of time and space, yes, but many of the people who stay aren't actually in control of it, instead dealing with it only in name. An odd mix of modern and old, this district will confuse newcomers and welcome old friends.
Take Nep for example. She was new once, coming in very late in the last Hunger Games from the Warp Star district. Lost and confused, she was too stubborn to ask for directions. However, eventually, she learned the lay of the land like the Top Nep she is, and began to thrive in her stomping grounds. She began rather good at using the roads and environment to her advantage, and eventually gained a rather cocky nature...
...which drew the attention of Lavos. This being shouldn't have been here. He existed outside of time before he came. He is a destroyer of worlds, a matchmaker of...well, makers. He almost destroyed a world or two by creating multiple copies of himself, and...well, there's not much to be said, is there? Lavos is the ultimate being of destruction. Only a few people have been known to face him and live...
So of course he wanted in on the Hunger Games. He volunteered, and Nep, being another RPG hero as it was, decided that she was Top Nep enough to take down this boss, volunteered as well...only to have her name drawn anyway.
The Foureyes District is nothing special. It exists more as a bridge between two other districts, but the people here are normally very kind, wise, and, well...glasses-ey.
Winston Payne and Pierre were drawn from this district, and it was enough to say that neither of them were up to the task. But hey, may the odds be ever in your favor, right?
And then we have the
Whale District. No, I don't have much of a lore for this place. It's more or less an endless aquarium. The whales from OFF and Endless Ocean were picked here and that's all I have to say. Moving on...
The Pokemon District wanted to be the very best, like no one ever was. However, this meant many different things according to the inhabitants. The Pokemon themselves wanted to survive, the Trainers wanted to catch them all, the fighters wanted to kill everything...modeled after various regions of the Pokemon universe, this district was...pretty messed up.
Litwick and Mimikyuu were fast friends here. Both being ghost-types, they could not hurt each other very easily without taking into consideration what the other has been put through. They stayed close, Mimikyuu seeking affection and finding it in many sympathetic Trainers (most who weren't part of the Sun/Moon war), and Litwick feeding off of their life force for as long as they stayed. Together, the two lived happy and content lives, working together to be the ultimate team in the district...
But then their names were called at the Reaping. Litwick and Mimikyuu took the concept in stride: if Mimikyuu won, they could use their fame to end the Sun/Moon wars in one fell swoop, and Litwick could have enough life force to last until their final evolution! It was a win-win...until they realized exactly what their being together in the Reaping meant...
The Warrior District is more or less a gathering of people who openly wore weapons and lived a life of combat. More of a Roman setting, but hey, I can't be creative with all of these.
Amongst the famous figures here was the Chariot Master. Owner of the Lightning Chariot and its two unicorns Phos and Lux, he lived a very long life unable to be bested in combat. At some point he died, but it was known that enough exertion could end his existence for good. Therefore, his name was called in the Reaping.
But there was one person that didn't know that right away. Dust, a swordsman who climbed the Chariot Master's tower while it was updating, challenged the Chariot Master for his title, and his possessions. Knowing that the tower was at its most unstable during updates ("The viruses should have killed you, boy. How did you survive?"), the Chariot Master gave Dust another obstacle to surmount: take Phos and Lux to the place of the Reaping and volunteer. If he won, he would have the rights to the the Lightning Chariot, the tower, and all he owned.
So it was with a sonic boom and a scattered crowd that Dust came in, raised his sword to the sky, and said with a fire in his heart: "By request of the Chariot Master, who has been entered in these Games and I have challenged, I volunteer as tribute for these Hunger Games!"
The Future District was composed of a strange combination of beings. Most were clairvoyants, guiding the people of the other districts to their fates and survival alike, others were aspiring to be just that. Others still were friends of such people, or clairvoyants who have since lost their power.
Melia Antiqua was a good friend of a man named Shulk, wielder of the Monado. He had lost his Monado getting to this district, and also lost his good friend Alvis. But he survived with his visions intact, and his friends by his side. Noticing that the district lacked a leader, Melia took the job. A noble and prosperous ruler, she did very well for herself, her friends, and her subjects. There was no real reason for her to enter the Games until one Yasuhiro Hagakure predicted that the people would begin to go against her for her frailty. His predictions were right 20-30% of the time 100% of the time, so Melia didn't think much of it...until the day came when his prediction came true. Her friends begged her not to take the obvious option. However, she had taken a similar challenge before and survived without her friends up until an unexpected variable. So, with a confidence in her spirit, she announced on the day of the Reaping that she would volunteer, to prove herself worthy, and if she were still not good enough she promised to throw herself on the mercy of her people and lead them to a more glorious future. Realizing this was his prediction and predicting that he would win without a single kill, Yasuhiro Hagakure volunteered as well. If your luck's that good already, why not ride on it?
Which brings us to the
Economics District. This district deals in money. Money here, money there, money everywhere, and standing at the top of the totem pole were two individuals: Mr. Monopoly and Anna, who managed to live on through many different instances of coups and such. Seeing profit in the Games, they volunteered, though all bets were on the mysterious Anna. Luck was no longer on anyone's side but her own.
Then came the
Technicolor District. Here, we have people with oddly-colored skin, fur, and other surfaces. In other words, they were the equivalent of varying Shiny colors in Pokemon. Here we have Lillac and Glowzor to bring in. I know nothing of these two so have fun~
The Deduction District was ironically very mysterious. With villains lurking around every corner and detectives everywhere following the clues they leave, no one could see the district's true nature. There were two famous figures here: Katrielle Layton and the Masked Gentleman, who were locked in eternal chess, with one doing all they could to capture, kill, or unmask the other. The game of chess had reached a veritable climax over the years, and now all the detectives were helping Katrielle with her struggle, and likewise the villains began supporting our Masked Gentleman. The battle was locked in eternal stalemate...until the Masked Gentleman volunteered for the Reaping. Katrielle was held in check. She had two options: the impossible, or the unacceptable. The unacceptable was to leave the fight against the Masked Gentleman and let him die in the Games. But...he had a plan, didn't he? He couldn't be trusted to die in the arena. But...there was the impossible: follow him in. She was torn between the two...until fate decided for her. Her name was called. Not expecting this, the Masked Gentleman recoiled. But now Katrielle had but one goal: win and end her game of chess once and for all.
The Agents District was an underground district. It didn't stand alone: it existed in many different districts at once. There were people disguised as other people, disguises disguised as other people, and overall just a ton of undercover people fighting for justice and order. Here, we drew Chase McCain (pretending to be in the Technicolor District) and...someone who hasn't been picked yet? Wow! I guess we'll all get to see who got picked at the same time! Okay, pretending to be from the Future District is...um...the entire cast of 007? What the actual fu--*PLEASE REMAIN WE ARE HAVING TECHNICAL ISSUES AT THE MOMENT*
The Judicial District is last but certainly not least. Comprised of witnesses, attorneys, and prosecutors, they take in troublemakers from all other districts and decide their fates, be it guilty, innocent, or otherwise kinda dumb. Two prominent...okay, I'm not going to lie. No one knew these two until the games. Their names are Wendy Oldbag and Quercus Alba. We know nothing of them due to faulty databases. Forgive us. For now just know them as the people who had their singular hand visible in the portraits.
Tomorrow, we start the games proper. I hope you enjoy every bit as much as I did when I went through it beforehand.
