The French Third Republic - The World Wars Liberté, égalité, fraternité! Prime Minister Waldeck-Rousseau: President Loubet, I welcome you back to the Élysée Palace, I hope the new year festivities have not detracted you from your duties. As you know, we have entered a new century, and your advisers and the Senate see it fit to inform you on the state of Europe and the world. As for Domestic Affairs, you must certainly know that the consequences of the Dreyfus Affair are still harsh in the nation, and Captain Alfred Dreyfus is now set for his third trial for treason against the Third Republic. As with this entire scandal, it's very likely that this trial will only serve once again to divide and polarize the nation. Even as I speak, the Senate Dreyfusards are still fighting for his pardon. Another major issue that is pervasive in our time is of the separation of church and state, probably caused by the strong Catholic-Nationalist divide caused by the Affairs. Currently, anti-German fears and tensions remain high, even though the acquisition of Alsace-Lorraine by them occurred decades ago. However, the opening of the Paris World Exhibition and Olympics later this year may help to unify the nation to our cultural and technological superiority. Politically, you stand in an incredibly divided and radicalizing France. Once again, the Dreyfus Affair splits political parties and has begun to polarize the population. Radical liberals, socialists, and radical conservatives stand to take the presidency upon the end of your term, and the end of mine. As for foreign affairs, our colonies in Africa and Southeast Asia have remained fairly stable, and have now become a staple of our economy. The British are now entangled in a devastating conflict in South Africa with the Dutch Boers. Russia and Japan are currently locked in a power struggle over Manchuria and Korea. The Qing has finally begun to open itself to foreign influence, however some rebels within the Qing Dynasty, known as the Boxers, have risen up against this new openness. Our neighbors to the East, Germany, are quickly rising to become the top power in Europe. I hope you are prepared to face the challenges of the new century. Bonne chance, President Loubet. Advisory Update - State of the RepublicThe Year is: 1900 President and Party: Émile Loubet, Democratic Republican Alliance Approval:- The French Senate is: neutral on your rule
- The French People are: happy on your rule
- The French Army is: discontent on your rule
- The International Community is: happy on your rule
International Tensions are: neutral and rising

Aww man, the army hates us?! Give them some cookies and maybe they'll like us some more.
Ok, I've done a bunch of wikipedia research guys. We have 14 years before world war 1. That's 14 years that we shouldn't spend... -Losing relations with important allies like the British -Making Belgium mad so they agree to let Germany use their land to invade France -Starting ww1 early -Convincing Kiptoke that nukes existed back then -Killing Hitler's Parents What we should do is -Defend a bunch, direct attacks against Germany won't work well -Only attack with help from other allies -Build up our military to have a bunch of tanks, planes, trucks for reinforcements, etc. -Don't forget about the navy, cover up any way the Germans can get here by sea -Make sure are colonies are well protected also
Those are just some general guidelines. For now, we should militarize a bunch so are army is prepared, also give Britain cookies they like cookies right?
About the Dreyfus Affair, basically the french army falsely accused Dreyfus of some stuff another guy named Esterhazy did and arrested him. Public found out about all of this and another trial gave Dreyfus more years in prison but he was later pardoned. This divided the french people into guys that supported Dreyfus being free and guys that didn't like Dreyfus being free and I have no idea what to do about it. I swear if I post this and somebody's already trying to nuke everyone...

Our current priority right now is honing our crafts in food, as well as building the population's resistance to poison because if anybody thinks they will be able to take our food when we're the bees knees of culinaration they're gonna to regret it so hard.
Also the military will probably like it if we make awesome rations during the troubling times I guess.

Throw lots of cool stuff at the military. Give them cool new toys, for example.
Also, I agree with Lenrap. The most important thing is to keep ourselves allied with all the Allied Powers. That way when poor old Franz Ferdinand gets shot in the head, we won't instantly get rekt by Germany.
Wait... what if we warned Franz Ferdinand about the assassination. WE COULD STOP WORLD WAR ONE! THAT SOUNDS LIKE A GREAT (read: terrible) IDEA!!

The thing I love about the AHCYOA is that there's always two sides - one side wants to do everything they can to prevent me killing them, the other side willingly wants me to kill them

Throw cool things at the army and then do things Lenrap said. Also what if we just killed Dreyfus? Or we could do that thing where we cut his head off and preserve it, and then pardon the head

Okay so since this is France, I'm just gonna get started right now with creating the Fédération Internationale de Football Association and making the World Cup tournament, the first of which is to be held in 1904. This would mainly help ease international tensions but idk if it'd actually work.
Edit: I'm mainly trying to push this through more quickly because the first actual World Cup wasn't until 1930. Just to see if it'll help bring the nations together and all that.

Advisory Update - State of the RepublicThe Year is: 1901 President and Party: Émile Loubet, Democratic Republican Alliance Approval: - The French Senate is: content with your rule
- The French People are: very content with your rule
- The French Army is: neutral with your rule
- The International Community is: very content with your rule
International Tensions are: tense1900 Yearly Debrief:
- Your influx of funds and materials into the military has placated the military generals. Further money has been put into future research of motorized infantry and better defenses. Anti-Dreyfusard military leaders, however, still are very critical of your rule.
- Money has been put into modernizing the fleets and naval bases at Brest, La Havre, and Calais. British Naval officers have been consulted to help lead the naval modernization project.
- The 1900 Paris World Exhibition was a smashing success. New innovations for the modern century were showcased, such as the diesel engine, Ferris wheel, talking films, and escalator. The 'Art Nouveau' style which has gripped Europe was also widely showcased. One can only imagine how influential these technologies and arts will be in the future.
- The 1900 Paris Olympics were also a large success, bringing in around 1000 athletes, both men and women, from around the world. Our superior athletes came back with 101 medals, the most out of any nation participating.
- Your military staff have begun to create military plans for a future German invasion through Alsace-Lorraine. It consists of heavily fortifying the German-French border.
- Diplomats have announced more favorable ties between France and Great Britain, and the possibility of further relations in the future.
Worldwide and National News:
- The Dreyfus Affair continues to split the French people. Your advisers recommend some government intervention in support of Dreyfus, while your military staff vehemently argue for his execution for high treason against the Republic.
- Great Britain has given Australia independence as a Commonwealth Territory.
- Queen Victoria of the United Kingdom has died after her 63 year rule. King Edward VII has succeeded her.
- The Boxer Rebellion in the Qing Dynasty has finally been crushed, and its leaders executed.
- Germany and Japan protest the Sino-Russian Agreement to give Russia greater control over Manchuria.
- Peace talks over the Boer War in South Africa fall apart due to Boer demands for autonomy. Furthermore, news of a mini-genocide committed by the British against the Boers and pro-Boer Africans hits the press.
- Cuba is integrated into the United States as a protectorate.
- Despite JP Morgan now owning the first billion dollar industry, the NYSE has crashed due to fears over control over the Northern Pacific Railway.
- President William McKinley, nearing the end of his second term, is assassinated. Vice President Theodore Roosevelt accedes him to the Presidency.

Continue trying to build relations with other countries. Especially try to make alliances with Great Britain and Belgium or whatever. Also, try to make friends with the USA and Canada.
As for the Dreyfus issue, I'm not really sure what to do about that. Either way, half of the country will hate us. If we punish Dreyfus, then the military will hate us less, and the people that really like us will like us less. If we help him, the military will hate us quite a bit, and potentially revolt, but the other people will like us more reliably. I'm not really sure which plan is better, but I'm leaning towards punishing him to avoid a military revolt.
Also, fortify the French border.

Increase relations with Belgium so they'll never know what hit them
Also try to get the approval of the army by issuing brighter, flashier uniforms. We've never looked so sharp.

We just have to decorate our trenches with shiny stuff so the uniforms still blend in! More luxurious trenches will raise morale too!

Stay neutral on the Dreyfus Affair to not make anyone mad.
Do we even have trenches yet? In history, the french actually made clothes that stood out and they got bodied because of it. WE'RE LITERALLY REPEATING HISTORY IN A BAD WAY THAT'S WHAT THE SCHOOLS ARE FOR GU-let's try some camo that stylish but not in a way where we get shot. Jackets are also good because baguettes are cold and we don't want to die from cold baguettes. Also red pants because french people love red pants.
Invest in the diesel engine and start production on gas masks if those don't exist already to help our military/navy more modern even though gas masks probably won't help our navy and I have no idea if the navy used diesel engines or not cuz I'm bad at war.
Also just realize that Hitler served in World War 1. Guys, once war time starts, we could kill him in the face.

Wonder why the Senate suddenly became the Parliament.
I'm still not sure about the Dreyfus Affair since no one has helped to decide, but we definitely need to do something about it.
Protect our interests in the Balkans.
