Another Ambitious Thread...

This really comes off as an overblown trade school for "good" kids.

To suggest creating a school/society for the gifted and talented comes off as incredibly john galt-esque. You'll be in essence pulling the elite core of the general population out into this cradle to create the new overseers of the earth; with the rest of the lesser unqualified to simply, what, reap the gracious gifts of these chosen few? Where does the populous of ordinary folks sort into this matter beyond the occasional churning of a new little golden child to whisk away?

For that matter it's preposterous to suggest that dumping a bunch of fancy toys on children with educations that are based solely on whatever whim they may have been taken by will produce much good. What value will a wind tunnel have to a 12 year old who self studied for years about how flying works but never though to consider how the physics of drag and motion and their mathmatical precision came into play, beyond whatever basic primer came out of their minimal grading education. Things like this take decades of study in a cascade of topics to reach the base understanding that children are really unlikely to encompass all of of their own accord.

If you want to let kids study in the pursuit of their goals, letting potential doctors learn medicine and architects learn architecture, fine. But don't expect much from any kid who carries their own leash to have the capacity to solve the worlds problems.

Necessity is the key to innovation, even the wind turbine mentioned earlier was only created because the last tool they used (an upended windmill with flails attached basically.) wasn't as effective as they needed, which was created to begin with because nobody had a clue why they couldn't figure out why a machine that looked like a bird couldn't fly like them. It's hard to imagine such hyper specialized individuals to be able to face walls like that without enough of a rounded education to hit it from new angles.

Admittedly my musings were rather scattered across the board, in that I saw a pessimitic outcome in both scenarios that'd play out where A: the society of the best would not be compelled to aid the greater sum or B: allowing an unregimented education system at the whims of humans who's minds aren't even going to be in fully functioning order until years down the line.

I'm all for the big idea dreaming of utopia but you're inevitably lookong through a pipe when it all comes down to it. I don't agree that giving somebody everything on a silver platter is going to speed up the spread of good to fellow man in the slightest. Rather, you'll either end up with squandered potential or a group of people on the cutting edge and raised thinking primarily about what they want to do.

But I don't seem to be understanding this with the right frame of mind at the very least; So perhaps you can show me where I'm off base or propose a more accurate rendition of how this would play out. Give me a scenario of the school in practice.
