Welcome to the Monster Hunting Thread. Here you can talk about anything related to Capcom's absurdly popular Cooperational Boss Fighting RPG series. Want some tips? Need some parts? Does that fish monster who just triple carted you need of a good ol' fashioned cussing out? Bring it all in. To start the ball rolling, I'm currently embroiled deep in the artic tunda seeking out a bunch of Glacial Agnaktors, Overgrown Ice Crocodiles basically, to max out my assortment of Ice and Water Element weapons. Dressing in full Plessie armor is helping out pretty handily with the work, but I'm looking more toward gearing up in a mix set that should be much more fetching once the upgrades are finished. What are you hunters up to?

I have monster hunter 3 ultimate on both WiiU and 3DS. I guess my main problem with the game is that I don't really know what to do in it. Like, what am I supposed to do in Moga Woods, find the lagicarus? Are all of my adventures outside of Moga woods limited to quests?
Anyways, I use hammers. I love 'em. They do some good damage, but maybe are a little sloppy in terms of aiming. I use the ludroth bone. It's a good one. I'm really just looking for some quests to do, trying to complete one called "Bear Trap" I keep killing the bear by accident

Haha yeah, that bear is a bit too much of a push over for his own good. In 3u your adventures are contained to Moga and Tanzia when not on a quest, world hub style. You'll never go anywhere besides moga woods in free hunt mode(Though you do quickly unlock certain missions that let you explore maps without a target boss, and later you can go to a night version of the woods with stronger foes as well.) This is partially addressed in the next game with RNG designed mini dungeon maps and more varied hub zones over the story mode. Free Hunting is only useful for points to use the facilities like farming and fishing, so you'll need to tackle the quests to progress the story enough to fight Lagiacrus. There are a number of quests in each set that are key quests, which upon completion will unlock an urgent quest to advance into new maps and unlock new monsters. You can find out which quests count as progression pretty easily with a quick google. Hammers are amazing weapons in 3u, as if you couldn't tell. The biggest trick to it though is that the basic attacks are not what you should be using to fight most times. If you want to battle much faster, and you do, Focus on the charge attacks. Each level attacks in a different way depending on whether you're standing still or not as well. The level three standing for example is a heavy hitting two strike super pound, while it's moving counterpart is the spinning whirlwind that is excellent for dealling status effects. You can get the general idea of how to get sick knockouts with this, just look for the openings and go for the head!

So far my armor building is progressing, I've got a pair of pants finished, but the belt and chestplate need rare materials from a particularly angry Brachydios. I've got some strategy set out to handle the fight but it'll be touch and go until I can get the results I need to effectively farm the thing without being blown to kingdom come. At least my incredibly sharp toothpicks are fun to use!
Whenever I get around to finishing this I still have to fight Zinogre, but he doesn't particularly worry me too much.

Wow anagalmeshu that's such a productive post.
Also Spindow has a pair of pants finished. Most out of context statement ever.

Basically they when properly matched will allow me to gain power from the rage of any monster I fight. I might be able to bedazzle them just so to further boost my attack when I take too much damage or start using heavy pyrotechnics. Works well for me on paper.

The Wii U version of 3u is super old and busted now. It plays perfectly fine and most of us in one manner or another have it so at the very least multiplayer is well covered peerwise. It's the cheaper option as well.
4u on the 3ds is the better game in nearly every way. you get to climb and jump off stuff, the monsters are all a lot more animated and lively, and story wise the game does better than before. I only know of like one of us aside from myself has the game however and it's still full retail.
It boils down to whether you want to play with Kun or the larger community. You can always just play the demo as well to see if you even like the games before you commit.

I'd wager on '17 to '18, depending on whether or not X becomes X Ultimate beforehand. It could be sooner but US and EU usually get their milage in.

If anybody has heard of it Monster Hunter Stories has a new trailer out. An RPG for people who'd rather ride monsters like horses than fight them. It looks pretty cool.

Woo. After finally getting around to it I beat the Story mode final boss of 4u in it's EX difficulty. As a reward for my bravery (by which I mean I chugged farcasters all mission like a chump) I have the distinguished pleasure of facing not one, not two, but FIVE brand new Elder Dragons that would love to pulverize me into fine paste I'm sure. Plus there's a super saiyan.
If I get past this I can finally get into G Rank and reasonably hold my own along with some old buddies I was left in the dust by. Looking forward to playing with them.
