So! With this game being out for awhile, I've got to say, this ones pretty fun so far. For those who don't know somehow, Smash is a fighting game series that pits popular and infamous nintendo characters (and others) against each other. Previous entries have been on the n64, gamecube, and wii but this iteration on the 3DS/Wii u is the biggest one yet. With many characters and stages to choose from, it's become an even more fun game than its predecessors. Online functions are waaaay better than Brawl too! I'll post some more thoughts eventually but that's the gist of it now I'm tired bluh What do you like about this game? What potentials do you think were missed? Discuss away!

I've actually never played a previous Smash game (besides Brawl, twice), and I think this is pretty fun! Im terrible and I mostly do fandom's because I haven't figures out a fighting style yet, but its pretty fun. I'm leaning towards Samus or Greninja as my main. Does anyone have any experience, good or bad, with these characters?

Lately I've been maining Villager, Luigi, and Toon Link; although I mainly use Toon Link for FFAs and Luigi for 1v1s, with Villager in anything. When I first got the game, I was actually going to main Greninja, but the circle pad always registered my up special as side, so I usually couldn't recover and fell to my death. I think his up smash was nerfed in a patch, so that might be part of the reason why I stopped. My playstyle tends to be really predictable against people who know what they're doing, because I usually just spam smashes and aerials, depending on the character.

I don't know what I'm doing so I just button mash and try to get items. It works okayish I guess. I can't even beat my level 9 amiibo though...

Asphoxia, amiibos naturally have more attack power than normal players, so don't be discouraged.
By the way, I'm about to get better internet, so you may no longer call me "the lag master". Also I'll probably be able to play purin again :3

Well, I beat Classic for the first time. On 0.0 intensity because I fail at Smash and am going to get better.

I've actually never been able to play as Mewtwo due to the only Smash game I've played prior to Sm4sh being Brawl (and only as Samus because Metroid), but he seems like an interesting character.

I have played Melee, but I never really played Mewtwo so I'm not sure how he'll play. Lucas on the other hand I'm really hyped for because he was one of my mains in Brawl.

Ye saem. I never really played melee due to me not getting into gaming until like, 2010, so I'm not familiar with mewtwo, but I was actually really good with Lucas and I'm hoping to be able to play as well with him as I did in brawl.

The only time I played Brawl I played as Samus and had absolutely no idea what I was doing, so...

I remember the good old days when I first played brawl. I had no idea that the A button did anything. (I was very very young)
Anyways, I main Dedede and DK. I've always found heavy characters more fun to play and even more satisfying to win with.

Ah, brawl...back when the only button was b. I remember being stuck on Taboo (or however it's spelled in Brawl) and buying a magazine that told you how to roll (only magazine I remember buying except for a single issue of Nintendo Power). After I learned rolling, Taboo was gone and a new button was introduced into the game. Dodging was extremely fun, and I loved smash even more. Then brawl broke and I didn't play smash until the 3ds demo hit the eshop. I also played a bit of melee when I was younger, but that was b button spam aswell (Also I mained kirby for both melee and brawl).
Once I got the smash 4 demo, I learned that the A button was useful and that I hadn't even begun to understand smash. I remember practicing against cpus and slowly getting better and better until I could beat level 9 cpus (all in one day). Then smash potato became a thing and I would spend lunch with my best friend fooling around and learning the game. By the time the game came out, we were equally skilled even though it had only been two weeks. 7 months later, and I'm feeling discouraged due to the lack of a main. The world is weird like that...

We all mained Kirby back in the Brawl days, back when we didn't know anything but specials. Good times.
I was under the impression you mained G&W, seeing that you mainly played as him against me, and quite well at that. uair juggling game 3stronk

I'm terrible at Smash despite knowing all the buttons, and I don't know what Smash Potato is...

Kirbrawl master race, UNITE!
But yeah, brawl will always be my favourite game in the series, even if it has tripping and floatiness. Then project M was made and I just noped and waited for smash 3DS. Yeah... the kind of people I don't like are those that list the smash games like this: Smash 64, Melee, Project M, and smash 4. Those people exist.
EDIT: I just found out that Pac-Man is my new calling. Sorry dedede, i'll keep you for brawl!

We all mained Kirby back in the Brawl days, back when we didn't know anything but specials. Good times. Yep. I use Dedede and others but usually forget how good I am at him (usually). Especially good when people are too dumb to know how to punish his Up Special. Or when they think I won't reflect my reflected Gordos. OR when they try to shield/counter Jet Hammer. ORRRRR when they try to meteor smash me. I swear I have never been meteor'd ONCE in Smash U and only twice on 3DS. Disrespect always gets me though...

I definitely knew more than specials when I first got Brawl. However, I didn't know about smash attacks and could never do anything. Yep.
Once I miraculously discovered their existence I started maining Toon Link, Zero Suit Samus, Marth, and several other characters.

Didn't see this. Greninja's main business is Shadow Sneak, and on some stages you can barely even see it coming! Don't rely on that alone though, but it's an amazing way to teleport out of a combo or make your opponent's attempt at chasing you backfire. It does a noticeably higher amount of damage and knockback when you hit the foe with your back to them where you appear, and you have super armor for just a second when you first activate it. Don't count on that though, and remember you don't ALWAYS have to use the sneak from a ways away. It's a good mix-up for a dash grab/attack, or to dodge some projectiles. But be aware that it's VERRRRY punishable, but your opponent has to see it coming. If you notice they do, prepare to do some DI. Water shuriken is good for getting cheap KOs from on the stage, and can be used similarly to Mega Man's Charge Shot when fully charged. When your opponent goes of the stage, use this move at a good time so they're snagged in it. Or--my personal fave method of using this attack: throw an uncharged one at a foe approaching from the ground. It'll either stun them or force them to block/jump. If they get stunned or block, quickly dash in for a free grab. This is SO useful for setting up grab combos (Dthrow to ??? at low percents, Uthrow to Uair at medium percents, or just Bthrow at higher percents unless at ledge, in which case do Fthrow to Shuriken spam). Also try this on airborne foes close to ground to stop them. Hydro Pump... is a good recovery. It has some fancy-shmancy technical stuff that I don't even get, all I know is that you can push opponents with it. Try that maybe. Then Substitute. Ohh-ho-ho-hooooo, Substitute... where do I begin? First, the move has a tiny counter window, so use it sparingly. But if you can pull off a counter, you can input any direction and Greninja will fly that way, kicking anyone who comes in your path. I like to go UP and then do an air combo of either a bunch of Dairs or a KO with a Uair. But since the move only counters where you were HIT, side-counters cover more area as to hit a foe using a sliding dash attack or something. But remember the moves lacks invincibility frames, so think fast on where you're going to launch the counter from. For beginners, it's hard to go wrong with a side-counter. Also a tip on counters in general: NEVER. And I mean NEVER try to counter Dedede's Jet Hammer or Kirby's Hammer Flip... try to hitstun the move out of them with a Water Shuriken or, if you're not Greninja, aerial attacks or Little Mac's Jolt Haymaker. Then jabs. Good jab. Reflects Gordos and cancels Villager's tree for the first hit. Flurry is good for punishing spotdodges or a weak combo with Dthrow at very low percents. Fsmash: Not so hot. You have better luck using a the sneak, but it's good for dazed opponents... if you even manage to do that in a no-customs fight. Dsmash: Better that Fsmash, good for roll punishes and the occasional ledge punish. Usmash: Use if a foe is above you. Comes out quicker than other smashes and has a deadly sweetspot directly above you. Good for a predicted jump approach and an AMAZING killing move. But for ground killing stick with Dsmash. Fair: Sometimes combos out of Dthrow... sometimes not. Quick enough and pretty versatile, but lacks range. Good killing though for off-stage foes too high up for a shuriken. Bair: Good for finishing a combo after an Ucounter, or just hitting your opponent in general. Dair: Tricky to predict and tricky to counter, but do NOT try to get the spike with it. Uair: Meh. Solid move, but nothing stands out too much. Good juggling, I guess? Can finish combos well, too. Nair: Ask someone else, I can never get this move right. And that's about all I know. Try Greninja out, he's really fun to use. As a side note I got my first SmashU meteor two weeks ago... Still won the match, though.

Also about greninja. If someone tries to shield Greninja's counter, their shield will break. At early percents, use this opportunity to pull off a risky move that has high damage (I don't play Greninja much, so I can't suggest any move or combo to do). If at late percents, use a high knockback move to ko your opponents (I believe u-smash has really high knockback).

Greninja is actually my main in Sm4sh right now. He can be pretty fun to play, but difficult to learn. All of what Osha and Lenrap already pointed out is good advice. Got a little bit I can add.
Jab: Greninja's initial jab is insanely fast. A pretty reliable choice when you're in close proximity to your opponent. The flurry will gradually push foes out, though, so finish it before they escape.
Shadow Sneak: This can actually be used in midair and even over pits, although you can't see the shadow. It can be great for horizontal recovery if you're knocked high into the air. Hydro Pump can also be used afterwards for additional distance.
Hydro Pump: Basically a better version of Mario's F.L.U.D.D. that doesn't need charging. Great recovery, and a great way to keep other players off the stage. It's really hard to do, but when a player tries to recover, you can use Hydro Pump to push them away from the platform. The knockback increases at higher percents.
Nair: I've never really found much reason to use this. It can be hard to land and is usually inferior to the other airs.
Uair: There was an interesting spike you could do by canceling this move halfway through or something, but I'm pretty sure it's been patched out. Alright knockback at the end of the attack.
Dair: The temptation to spam can be great, but be careful. It can be easily predicted and, if you miss, punished afterwards.
Counter: Great counter, but I've noticed that it doesn't seem to work on some moves because of hitboxes. The only example I can think of is Sonic's rolling attacks. Your counter will collide with the roll and they'll cancel each other.
Greninja doesn't really have any reliable combos, at least none that I know of. This can make him a bit difficult to play, but he's very quick and stays relatively low to the ground, so use that to your advantage.

One good combo is, like I said above, Ucounter to Dair to ???. Also Lenrap, counter ONLY breaks shields with the Substitute Ambush custom, I found that out today. But don't worry because that'll really only happen if you counter a jab or something.
And people ask me why I want customs in "With Anyone"...

Speaking of customs, I'm currently on the side of "ban certain customs". I used to 100% support them until I saw a tournament where a villager player spammed a custom up b that made the balloons explode (Player used up b, grabbed ledge, dropped from ledge, and did this for the whole match while nobody could punish). I now see why people hate customs so much...
