The voice has paused, as if waiting for an answer. Somewhat uncertainly, you address the closest hovering wisp, in the hopes of receiving more information. First, you ask the entity if it knows anything about your goals, the tree known as Elden and the old mill. For a minute, there is no reply. Then, you hear a sound which at first sounds like the rustling of dry leaves, but after noticing the wisps jerking erratically up and down, you realize it is laughter. The silky voice soon returns. “Child, of course I know about Elden. I have been here for 2,000 years; surely I would have some inkling of who I am by now? Congratulations! You have almost reached me. And I have much to tell you. As for the mill, I know it well. The people there used to tear down my trees, rip them apart… But that was years ago. It is ruined now, but if you wish to find it, I can help. Not now, though. The forest is dangerous. Follow my messengers, and I will keep you safe until all your questions are answered.” The voice has just barely tapered off when you ask another question, this time requesting the voice’s phone number. The wisps freeze. For a minute, they hang like twinkling stars in the dark trees, before zipping toward one another and forming a congealed mass. You hear faint whispering, and can just barely pick out phrases such as “What’s a phone?” and “…needs an answer…”. After about a minute, the wisps once again form a pathway, and the voice responds. “I- I don’t… Um… Come to me, child, and I can give you all the answers you wish.” The forest fades into silence. What do you decide to do? Ask the voice if it knows anything about your objectives. Ask for all the info before you take a step off the trail and then unlock an achievement. ...what? "Does going with you unlock an achievement?" Hope to confuse the wisps more with that question and slowly edge offscreen. I don't quite trust this source.

"Indeed, child. Achievements can be unlocked for a multitude of reasons throughout this land. Sometimes quite unexpectedly."
As you slowly edge further down the trail, the wisps follow you at a distance. "Please make sure you've carefully considered. I can offer you a great deal of help if you require it." Kinniekins sniffs at the closest wisp, before beginning to toy at it with her paw.
(Achievements won't really have any effect on the CYOA, they're just for fun)

Sorry, Koop, you’re outvoted. Guess we’re following the wisps.
You step off of the trail and begin to walk through the trees, following the glimmering lights. As you pass them, they join you, floating by your side. Kinniekins begins to snap and paw at them, and some of them aren’t quick enough to dodge.
In addition to the green wisps, you begin to see other of varying colors, bright blues, yellows, and reds. An ever-growing mass of light guides you on a winding path through the trees, until suddenly, you emerge into a vast clearing. At first you think the sun has risen, as the clearing is brightly lit, but then you realize the light emanates from a gargantuan tree at the center of the area. Its boughs spread far enough to provide a ceiling for the entire field, and gnarled roots snake their way all over the ground.
Numerous wisps frolic in the foliage of the tree, flitting back and forth among the leaves. But the majority of the light emanates from a spot in the side of the trunk, just above the roots. Walking closer, you find the entrance to a large hollow, a cavernous chamber inside of the tree itself. All along the walls run dark black marks which trace a waving pattern over the bare wood. At the very center of the enclosure, a large, ornate brazier sits, with a healthy fire crackling merrily inside.
The whispery voice returns, seeming to come from everywhere inside the tree. “Step inside, child. Sit by my fire. We have much to discuss. And who knows? Many shapes slither through the smoke. If fortune favors you, maybe you will see something important.”

Your party steps into the giant chamber, which easily stretches halfway up the height of the huge tree. Now that you are inside, you can see that the black marks winding around the wood, which look like burn marks, form a giant snake, coiling across the inside of the tree. They end in a large, serpentine head directly above the entrance to the room.
The brazier in the center is still crackling merrily. Fearlessly, you march up to the flame, which flickers down to small glowing embers as you approach. Meanwhile, the excitable wisps dance around the room. You and Steele stand at the side of the brazier, while Kinniekins jumps up on the wide stone brim, and the three of you gaze into the center.
You call out to the voice again, asking it to come out and speak face-to-face. Some more direction on how to use the brazier would certainly be nice. The wisps freeze in place for a minute. Then, suddenly, the room begins to ring with whispery laughter.
“Of course, child! I was hoping you’d ask.”
The brazier flares back to life with a bright burst of heat, causing you and Steele to stagger back. Kinniekins skitters off the side with a yelp. The wisps are moving faster than ever, whirling around a growing column of fire so fast they are no more than a blur of color. Once the fire is twice the size it was earlier, the wisps dive into the center and explode outwards.
Long tongues of flame snake through the air, one landing right in front of the entryway, creating an inferno which blocks the exit. The rest blaze towards the walls, quickly filling in the black marks with light until they reach the head and a giant, flaming snake begins to peel itself from the wall.
“Welcome, child,” the snake says, “I was hoping you would come.” Its voice now crackles and pops, and every word sends a blast of heat over you. By now, its entire body has formed, and it easily fills half of the chamber. It settles into a coil, lowering its head to your level. “I have a request for you. I suggest you accept, before you become the next meal of the Boitatá.”
Steele has drawn his sword and dropped into a fighting stance, but is looking at you uncertainly. Kinniekins dashed behind your legs at the first sign of the snake. Will you listen to the Boitatá? You think you could always attempt to fight your way out of here, as well.

Well. I guess I was completely right.
Let's at least listen to this thing's request, first. If they tell us to accept BEFORE telling us any details, then say it's a no-go.

Ask the Boitata if it likes smores (I don't know I'm tired) "Fires love s'mores, especially when the marshmallow falls in." After some consideration, you decide that it’s in your best interest to listen to the snake, rather than trying to fight your way out. Cautiously, you ask it what it wants. “Wise choice, child. Now, I’m sorry to deceive you, but I had to make sure you wouldn’t pass me by. I am not obviously not Elden, but you’re not far off.” He tilts his head back to look at the gigantic tree above you. “This tree was once the great guardian of this forest. When its time came, it passed that responsibility down to its offspring, who grew atop it. This continued for hundreds of years, until Elden’s birth. He grows at the very top of the tower, connected to this, the Greensdale Forest, through his ancestors’ dry skeletons.” The Boitatá lowers his head and curls around his brazier, which still burns happily. “Of course, he does not keep watch alone. It is my duty to sense the fires which break out amongst the foliage. When I smell burning, we send the great swan, Cirri, to quench the flames with her rains. In return, the tree shelters my brazier, so I may burn forever, and Cirri may nest in the branches.” His eyes narrow. “Nearby lived an old mage named Arbor. I have no idea if he is still there, he may have left long ago, but he had a large greenhouse in his cottage. The lush plant life was a source of great power for Elden. However, quite suddenly, the cottage caught fire. By the time Cirri got there, she could only stop the spread; the entire cottage burned down because I didn’t sense the fire. The only way I can’t sense a fire beginning is it is set deliberately.” With a loud whoosh the flames at the entryway die down, and the snake begins herding your party out the door. “Elden is still too young to deal with the loss of so much plant life; the shock sent him into hibernation. Whoever set that fire declared war on this forest,” he spat. “Find them, and bring them to me. Bring Arbor if you find him as well, Elden needs help. You can’t speak with him until he is healed.” Once you are outside, Steele grabs you and pulls you away from the towering tree. Once you are a fair distance away, he spins around and grabs your arms frantically. “You know what happened, right? It’s those golems! You know, the ones you set on FIRE?” Kinniekins yelps. “They must not have been completely out when we left. Look, we have to get going, we’ll find the mill on our own. Only way you’ll talk to Elden is if you turn yourself in, and who knows what that serpent will do then. Come on.” He begins to tug on your arm, but you pull back and he almost topples over. “What? Ackerman, you can’t seriously be considering it!” What will you do?

You decide that the most important thing for you is to speak with Elden, even considering the current situation, so you turn around and begin to head back towards the Greensdale tree.
"You're actually going to go back?"
Steele's voice stops you, and you turn back to him. He is still standing at the edge of the clearing, incredulous. "Alright, fine! Go back then, to hell with you and that blasted snake. I won't be second string to a comedy troupe of dying gods. You've caused enough trouble for me with your damn magic anyway!"
Steele spins on his heel and draws his sword. He begins to hack his way through the undergrowth, and soon, he disappears into the darkness of the forest. (Steele has left the party)
Kinniekins whimpers and climbs up onto your shoulder. Now with one less party member, staying near the tree seems even more appealing, so you make your way back to the hollow in the trunk. Walking inside, you notice that the chamber looks the same as it did the first time you entered, but soon, the brazier blazes to life, and the Boitatá emerges again, eyeing you greedily.
"Back so soon? Sans one warrior... Alright, what do you need?"
Cautiously, in an attempt to not reveal too much information, you ask what, hypothetically, would happen to this TOTALLY FIGURATIVE starter of the fire.
"Well, that would be up to Elden to decide. This is his forest. I cannot say for sure how he would react, he is still young. But, tell me, Steele? Where did he go." The snake smiles widely, baring his flickering fangs.
You freeze and attempt to stammer out an explanation. You get as far as a surprise party before the Boitatá suddenly darts forward, looping his coils around you and Kinniekins. They don't burn, but squeeze so hard that you can't move at all.
"See, I think your friend ran off because he knew something I didn't. You're our little arsonist, aren't you?"
Will you confess? Or try to talk your way out of this? Or maybe you want to pin the fire on Steele, after he abandoned you out here?
